Dr. Steven L. Gilchrist, a board-certified internal medicine physician, is a distinguished leader in Charlotte, NC. With over 20 years of experience in the medical field, Dr. Gilchrist oversees the daily operations of his practice while managing a team of physicians, practitioners, clinicians, and other healthcare professionals. He is recognized for his visionary leadership, operational expertise, and unwavering dedication to patient-centered care.
A graduate of the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University, Dr. Gilchrist was one of three recipients awarded a full scholarship for medical school. Following his graduation, he completed his residency at Riverside Regional Hospital in Newport News, VA, where he served as Chief Resident. Before medical school, he was selected for a prestigious internship at Oxford University in London, England, solidifying his global perspective on healthcare.
Dr. Gilchrist founded his current practice 13 years ago in the Steele Creek area of Charlotte, NC. Under his leadership, the practice has tripled in size, necessitating a new facility and an expanded team to accommodate the growing patient population. His reputation for excellence, professionalism, and passion for patient advocacy has earned him widespread respect throughout the Charlotte community. Dr. Gilchrist has received numerous accolades, including the Top Docs of Charlotte Award for five consecutive years, the Patient’s Choice Award for eight years running, and the Compassionate Doctor Award five years successively.
Beyond his practice, Dr. Gilchrist is deeply involved in the community. He serves on several boards, including the Greater YMCA of Charlotte and the Palisades Episcopal School, where he has been a board member for six years. For over a decade, he has contributed his expertise and leadership as a member of Transformation Church. Additionally, Dr. Gilchrist recently played a key role in securing funding for the construction of a new high school in the Steel Creek area, completed in the fall of 2022. In recognition of his contributions, he was featured in an article by the Charlotte Hornets in April 2020 as a community hero.
